46 - The Best Medicine
It so happened one day. Kanjibhai, the eldest son of Bapashri, had fever. He was also coughing badly. Bapashri was out of station.
As soon as he reached home, he went to Kanjibhai. Bapahsree inquired about his health, ‘How are you feeling, Son?’
Kanjibhai replied, ‘I am down with fever and cough.’ Bapashri caressed his head and covered him properly with a sheet. He narrated the incidents of God.
Bapashri adviced, ‘Kanji, we must always rememeber God during any sort of emergency or trouble. We should never forget God and His Muktas.’
Kanji said, ‘Bapa, whole day I remember God while lying down. I was waiting for you to return.’ Bapashri continued, ‘Son! Remembrance of God is the best medicine. It can cure all the diseases.’
Kanji uttered, ‘Yes Bapa.’ Bapashri was massaging kanji’s head and spoke, ‘Kanji, Son! We must take medicines, but if medicines are not accompanied by the remembrance of God, they are not effective.’
Kanji was listening attentively, His pain was reduced through the stories of Bapashri. Bapashri continued, ‘Remembrance of God and His Muktas is real medicine.’
A Haribhakta called in to inquire about the health of Kanjibhai. Haribhakta asked, ‘It seems Kanjibhai is having very bad fever and cough.’ Bapashri assured, ‘He will be all right.’
Haribhakta suggested, ‘I have a very effective medicine. Why don’t you try it out? It will cure the illness.’ Bapashri informed, ‘Kanjibhai is taking the best medicine.’ Haribhakta asked ‘Really? What medicine is that? What do you put in it?’
Bapashri disclosed, ‘Not much. There are only two ingredients.’ Haribhakta was impatient, ‘What are they?’ asked he.
Bapashri revealed, ‘Maharaj and Mukta, combination of these two is being taken by him as a medicine. Haribhakta was astonished. He asked Bapashri, ‘Is this called a medicine?’
Bapashri affirmed, ‘Yes, this is the best medicine. My Kanji would be cured by these two.’ Haribhakta was doubtful, ‘But, you must give some medicine.’
Bapashri assured, ‘If we remember Maharaj and Mukta wholeheartedly, they definitely help us out.’ Haribhakta couldn’t believe the statements of Bapashri.
After a few days, He again went to see Kanjibhai. Kanjibhai was perfectly all right. He was working normally. Haribhakta was surprised.
He asked Bapashri, ‘Is it true that Kanjibhai has been cured without taking any medicine?’ Bapashri replied, ‘We gave the medicine.’
Haribhakta exclaimed, ‘I knew it! Without medicine nobody could be cured. Which medicine did you give?’ Bapashri reminded, ‘Did you forget? Only two things, Maharaj and Mukta. Illness was cured by them.’
Haribhakta couldn’t believe. He asked Kanjibhai, ‘Kanjibhai, which medicine did you take?’ Kanjibhai replied, ‘Bapa used to tell me the stories of God and His muktas and their glory. I used to feel peaceful listening to these narratives. I also prayed Maharaj. God has cured my illness.’
Haribhakta was astonished. He fell down at the feet of Bapashri. He confessed, ‘Bapa, nobody can do this except you. Only the name of God has cured the disease, such miracle I have witnessed for the first time.’
He bowed down to Bapashri and returned to his village.
